From the first snow of the season, falls a single snowflake with its beautiful design and seemingly mysterious journey.Savannah Rose watched through the window as the snowflakes begin to dust the ground in powdery white. As she watched, she couldn’t help but smile at how beautiful and different each snowflake was. It’s as though they are as big as the sky. She turned her attention toward her mother who was resting in a big, soft chair by the fireplace.
"Mother, who designs the snowflakes?” asked Savannah.

Mother got up from her chair and after a small stretch, came to the window and sat next to Savannah on the window seat.
"Well Savannah, there is a special sculptor of ice that lives in the clouds. He decides the pattern of snowflakes and he also decides the pattern of children like you".
She went on, "When a child is born, a new snowflake is sculpted, perfectly designed especially for that child. No two snowflakes are the same, just as no two children are the same."
Savannah replied, “Why did each snowflake have to be so different?”
“Well think about all of your friends. There is Lily, Toby and even little Noel down the street. Why do you like Lily so much?” asked Mother.
“Because she has red hair and she always sings!” replied Savannah.
“And Toby?” asked Mother again, her voice growing in affection toward her daughter.
“Because Toby tells the funniest jokes!” laughed Savannah, thinking of that silly Toby.
“That’s why every child is different darling! Each of your friends is unique and wonderful in so many different ways. That is why you love them so much. And that is why I love you so much. There are many special things about you that make you perfectly who you are.” And with that, Mother kissed Savannah’s cheek.
Savannah gazed out the window once more in search of that one snowflake that was created just for her.
"Which snowflake do you think was designed for me?" She dreamily asked her mother who was back in her big, soft chair by the fireplace.
"When you find the snowflake with a heart in its design, you will know that snowflake was made for you" replied Mother.

Savannah rushed outside and held her hand toward the sky, hoping with all of her might that a very special snowflake would fall.
"Mother! Mother!” cried Savannah and when her mother rushed to the front door, Savannah smiled. “A snowflake landed in my hand and there were two hearts in the center. Mother, that snowflake must have been made for me AND you."
And with those words, Mother and Savannah shared a warm hug and felt the special love that is shared only between a mother and a daughter.
